Our unpainted muslin backdrops are sewn flat (0% fullness). All fabric widths are joined horizontally. The top of the drop will be reinforced with heavy-duty 2" wide upholstery jute webbing stitched twice. #3 brass grommets will be machine set on 1 foot centers and provided with 36" cotton tie lines for hanging. Side hems will be 2" wide. The bottom hems will be 6" deep, double stitched, and left open at each end to allow insertion of pipe or a chain weight.
Many performance venues require scenery and drapes to be Flame Retardant (FR). When you order Flame Retardant drapes, drops or fabric from Norcostco, we provide you with a FR certificate. However, when painting on FR muslin, there is a risk that the moisture in the paint can cause the FR chemicals to leach to the surface causing discoloration. That is why it is most common for muslin purchased with the intension of painting to be sold as Non-Flame Retardant muslin.
