Description

Worbla’s Kobracast Art is a lightweight, white plastic mesh with a thermoplastic coating that is heat activated (approx. 80-90 °C / 175-195 °F). Best used for things like complex mask molding where undercuts are an issue, or for fabric structure and manipulation like cuffs and collars. It is also excellent in millinery applications, and can be used as an alternative to traditional liquid glues in some cases.

As a molding material, KobraCast Art is unique because it can stretch, but the mesh base is tear resistant. This makes it possible to cast organic and complex shapes. WKA stays somewhat flexible even after cooling which makes it possible to separate from complex molds, including those with undercuts – it can often just be ‘peeled’ off a mold, and then ‘popped’ rightside out. (Note that all molds need mold release, as Kobracast can and will adhere to many surfaces!).

Worbla’s Kobracast Art comes in sheets in the same sizes as Worbla’s other sheet plastics, and is the thinnest Worbla’s product: it is about the same thickness as cardstock or bristol board..

Worbla’s® KobraCast Art’s surface maintains a texture when formed similar to that of fine medical gauze. You can paint directly onto it, or prime it with Flexbond, Gesso, or other primers to smooth out the surface before painting.

Kobracast can be sewn through quite easily by machine or (slightly less easily but still possible) hand. Kobracast pieces can be placed in the washing machine on cold, gentle cycle and be hung to dry. Kobracast can be reheated whenever required to reset shapes damaged by wear or transit.
