Figaro and Susanna, servants of the Count and Countess Almaviva, are set to wed, but the Count first wants to exercise droit du seigneur - the right to bed a servant girl on her wedding night. The Countess and Susanna plot to fool the Count, by disguising Cherubino the page boy as Susanna. Marcellina also wants to wed Figaro, but a mock trial finally reveals she is his mother and her employer Don Bartolo is Figaro's father. The Gardener Antonio and his daughter Barbarina help sort the confusion, and all ends happily for the various couples.
