Set at a 1930s parfumerie in Budapest, the story involves Georg Nowack and Amalia Balash, two feuding coworkers who are secret penpals. As they fall in love in their letters, and clash in real life, the shop owner Mr. Maraczek falls ill, co-workers Ilona Ritter and Steven Kodaly are sometime lovers, and sales clerk Ladislal Sipos and delivery boy Arpad are kept busy as the Christmas season approaches.
