Description

Sculpt or Coat is a great product with multiple uses.

Applications - Widely used for constructing scenery, props, costumes, armor, masks, trees, rocks, sculpture, puppet making, organic shapes, scenic painting, special effects make-up, hobby and craft items.

How to Apply - Spread with bare hands, brushes, trowels, rags, rollers, sponges, pastry tubes or thin with hot water and spray it (Hypersensitive individuals should wear gloves.)

Coverage - Coverage is approximately 350 square feet per gallon, rolled thin on a smooth surface. Coverage will vary depending on surface texture & thickness applied. Coverage may be extended with water.

Foam Coating - Sculpt or Coat creates a protective tough coating that stops breakage, keeps pieces from drying out and prevents solvent based paints & spray paints from eating away foam.

  • Blue or Pink Sheet Foam: Peel off plastic film. Smooth on Sculpt or Coat.
  • Bead Styrofoam: Sculpt or Coat protects the surface from breakage. For a smooth surface apply 2 thin layers. For impact surfaces add a layer of cheesecloth, gauze or other open weave fabric into wet Sculpt or Coat.
  • Urethane Foam: "A&B" pour foams: Sculpt or Coat keeps pieces from drying out and prevents breakage. A thin layer creates a surface that accepts all types of paint, even lacquers & spray paints. Note: Some insulation foams give off toxic gases days or weeks after they appear to be cured (dried out), and gas bubbles may occur.
  • Ethafoam, Backer rods: A thin layer of Sculpt or Coat primes the surface for painting. An overcoat of Sculpt or Coat prevents paint from flaking off when flexed. For additional strength, add a thin layer of gauze or cheesecloth.
  • Foam Adhesive: Use Sculpt or Coat to adhere foam to foam, foam to wood or other materials. Smooth a thin layer of Sculpt or Coat onto each surface; let it dry until tacky then press together. Makes a super bond!

Adhesive - Sculpt or Coat is more durable then Hot melt or Vinyl glues. Adheres to woods, fabrics, ceramics, masonry, papers, foams, metals, glass, non-slick plastics and oil free organics.

  • Decorate: Props, costumes & crafts by placing sequins, rhinestones, feathers and textures into wet Sculpt or Coat. Mix in glitter or mica chips to create a sparkling surface.
  • Texture: Ground rows, floors, walls, organics, sets and exhibits by mixing mulch, gravel, sawdust, paper pulp, fabric, leaves, sand, cotton, pine needles, threads, etc. into wet Sculpt or Coat.

Shape Fabrics - Dip your fabric into the pail, pull out and squeeze out excess Sculpt or Coat, shape the fabric as desired and let air dry or work Sculpt or Coat into flat fabric and mold to desired shape.

Casting & Mask Making - Create positive and negative molds using Sculpt or Coat and your favorite material. Affix extensions, eyebrows, protrusions, decorative materials or whatever, using Sculpt or Coat as your adhesive.

  • Texturing - Sculpt or Coat can be used to create a wide variety of textures.
  • Raised Texture: Created by patting or swirling Sculpt or Coat on a surface with your hand or use a sponge, comb or special roller sleeve. Add sand, fabric, paper, pebbles, cotton, pine needles, cedar mulch, leaves, rope, threads, sawdust, etc.
  • Adobe: Mix with plaster & water to make a mud then apply with trowel in a circular motion. Create faux adobe by dipping fabric in Sculpt or Coat & laying against surfaces.
  • Tree Bark: Use Sculpt or Coat to apply pine bark nuggets, crumpled paper or mulch. Use fingers to sculpt fabric into bark ribbing over a frame work of wire or wood.
  • Negative Effects: is great for creating flexible, scaled reptile or dinosaur skins. Glitter or mica chips can be mixed in to create a sparkling surface. Lay netting on surface, apply Sculpt or Coat over net, then lift netting off.

Colorants - Sculpt or Coat is compatible with ARTIST'S CHOICE SATURATED PAINTS, acrylics, temperas, universal tints and other water based paints, dyes and dry pigments. Save time by adding colorants into Sculpt or Coat prior to applications. Once dry, surfaces can be spray painted, lacquered or painted with enamels.

Release Agents - A coating of Ivory liquid or other dish soap may be used as a release agent. Once dried, pieces release from teflon, polypropylene, oily or waxed surfaces or from its own pail. Vaseline also works well.

Papers - Sculpt or Coat makes all papers extremely durable when coated front and back. For added structural strength, add a gauze or fabric coating over surfaces and joints.

  • Papier Mache: Mix Sculpt or Coat and papier mache to create tough mascot heads & props. This mixture is also great for repairing old pieces and building protrusions on new pieces!

Translucency's - Sculpt or Coat creates a paintable surface on plexiglas, styrene and clear poly-sheeting.

  • Pebble or Frosted Glass: pat or daub Sculpt or Coat on to surface.
  • Stained Glass: can be achieved in many ways: Mix 1 part Sculpt or Coat, 1 part water & 1part colorant. Paint on surface. OR Use Sculpt or Coat in conjunction with gels, colored tissue papers or saran wrap.
  • Stenciling: Mix Sculpt or Coat and colorant then apply with stencil.

Sealing - Sculpt or Coat seals surfaces. Use it to seal smooth, grained, muslin, fabric, plastic & rough surfaces for painting with just one coat. Usually one base coat of colorant is all that is needed on this sealed surface.  (We advise testing a small area of untreated steel for flash rusting prior to application.)

Drying Time - Sculpt or Coat air cures. Use a shop or box fan to speed up drying times if needed. Drying times vary based on thickness of application: less then 1/8" thick: 3-5 minutes; 1/4" thick: 2-3 hours. Thickness can be achieved faster by building up thin layers. Faster drying times can be achieved by using shop or box fans to create an even air flow over the surface. Thicker applications, Low Temperatures, and Humidity will extend drying time!

Thinning - Sculpt or Coat may be extended with water. Hot water works best for thinning. However, once dried, cracking or peeling may occur if thinned too much. We recommend full strength application for most projects.

Sanding- Create a surface to be sanded by mixing in an aggregate such as joint compound. Once project is dry you can smooth the surface with fine grade sandpaper.

Clean Up - Tools should be washed immediately with warm water and soap. Dried Sculpt or Coat can be peeled off in some cases.

  • Skin: Wash up with warm water and soap or let dry and peel off coating.
  • Projects: Wipe off dusty, dirty, dry items with a damp cloth. Machine washing or dry cleaning costumes - not recommended!
  • Spills and Leaks: Clean up with inert absorbant and transfer to container for discard. Floor may be slippery.

Storage - Keep Sculpt or Coat containers from freezing. Store at temperatures between 50F and 100F. Close container tightly after each use.

Flammability - In its wet state, Sculpt or Coat's flammability rating is 0. Once dried, used with some foams, thinned or mixed with other compounds, it may be capable of sustaining a flame. Use suitable fire retardant as needed.

Cautions- Do not take internally. * Children use under adult supervision. * Use adequate ventilation. * Close container after each use. * Do not apply when surface or air temperature is below 50 F. * Store between 50-70F. * Keep from freezing. * Do not mix this water based plastic cream with oil based paint.

Warranty - Because the product has many applications the manufacturer and seller make no warranties expressed or implied and accept no responsibility other than replacement of product should it prove to be defective. The user must determine the suitability of this product for his or her particular applications, and accepts the full responsibility of that determination, and responsibility for any consequential damages should they arise.
