Before Hamilton - there was 1776. At the Second Continental Congress, John Adams and Benjamin Franklin try to convince the other delegates to consider independence from Great Britain, but constant bickering and tie votes seem to lead nowhere. Thomas Jefferson is convinced to write a Declaration of Independence, to prompt all the delegates, and the colonies they represent, to finally agree. As the hot summer days draw on, the delegates continue to spar over the wording. Edward Rutledge, Caesar Rodney, Dr. Lyman Hall and president of the congress John Hancock all take various stances, until messages from George Washington on the war front convince them to a unanimous vote. This Tony-winning musical brings American history to vivid life.
